Manual pallet truck for everyday pallet handling

A good manual pallet truck is one of those warehouse tools that should simply do its job, day after day. It should lift the pallet cleanly, roll without unnecessary effort and fit the space where the work is actually done. This pallet truck is intended for everyday pallet handling in warehouses, production facilities, shops, loading areas and other work sites where loads are moved by hand over short distances.

Choose the pallet truck by pallet size and load

The first thing to check is what kind of pallets or loads the pallet truck will handle.

• The clearly most common fork length is 1150 mm. It is also the fork length produced in the highest volumes, which is why it is usually the most affordable choice.
• For longer loads and large pallets, the pallet truck can be selected with longer forks. The available fork lengths for these applications are 1500, 1800 and 2000 mm.
• There are also situations where a shorter pallet truck is the better solution. In cramped storage spaces, on vehicles, beside production machinery or in areas with narrow turning points, a long truck can slow the job down. For these places, the fork length can be selected as short as 800 mm. By factory order, it is possible to go down to 600 mm.

Wheel choice: nylon tandem wheels for most uses

The condition and quality of the floor decide what kind of wheels should be selected. The most common and versatile wheel arrangement for this pallet truck is a tandem bogie with nylon wheels. In practice, this means two smaller load rollers on each fork side instead of one single roller. The bogie structure helps the pallet truck pass over small obstacles more smoothly.

Nylon wheels are a strong general-purpose choice. They roll with low resistance, which matters when the user is moving a heavy pallet manually. They are also durable, making them a practical compromise for many industrial and warehouse environments.

When a single load roller pallet truck makes sense

There are still cases where a single load roller arrangement is worth considering. A single load roller pallet truck can be a good option in tight spaces where the truck is often turned at a steep angle. In sharp turns, single load rollers scrub less against the floor than tandem rollers, so the truck can feel lighter to handle in that type of work.

The trade-off is obstacle crossing. A single load roller does not travel over even low obstacles as well as a tandem bogie. Small thresholds, floor joints and debris can stop the truck more easily. For that reason, the single roller version is best for workplaces where the floor is clean, even and the main challenge is manoeuvring in a restricted space.
