Pallet racking can be configured for different pallet types, but this starter bay is sized specifically for Euro pallets.
The starter bay is designed for heavier products and materials that are best stored on pallets. A stable rack structure supports safer handling, helps reduce damage from unnecessary re-stacking and keeps the storage area looking organised even when the pace picks up. Because the racking keeps pallet loads separated and clearly positioned, inventory checks and replenishment are faster and more predictable.
A starter bay is the foundation of a longer pallet racking run. When you need more pallet positions, you can extend storage with add-on bays (extension bays) or by adding extra beam levels. This approach keeps investments flexible: you install the storage you need now and expand in steps as throughput increases. It is also helpful when you want to adjust the layout later, for example to create a new picking zone, segregate fast movers or reserve a dedicated area for inbound goods.
Pallet racking is often used for full pallets, but it can also be adapted for many other storage needs. With intermediate beams, shelf panels or wire mesh decking, the same rack can hold cartons, bins, cages or irregular items that do not sit safely on a pallet. This is a practical way to standardise storage in one system instead of mixing several different rack types across the warehouse.
Good racking is only part of good storage. Clear location marking makes receiving and picking faster and reduces mistakes. The system can be complemented with label strips, upright label holders, label covers, location signs and rack labels so pallet positions are easy to identify at a glance, even for temporary staff or during busy periods.
In active warehouses, most damage happens at floor level. Column guards, end-of-aisle protectors, tunnel guards and safety barriers help protect uprights from forklift contact and keep traffic routes clearer. Depending on the layout, back stops or safety mesh can also help prevent goods from being pushed through the rack. Choosing the right protective parts is a cost-effective way to improve day-to-day safety and keep the racking performing for longer.
This base section includes two end frames (upright frames) and eight horizontal pallet racking beams. The end frames are supplied with the key structural parts (uprights, bracing, base components and fixings), and the beams are supplied with safety locks to help keep each beam securely seated in the frame. The eight beams are used to build multiple beam levels (a pair of beams per level). Together with floor-level storage, the configuration provides 20 Euro pallet positions.
The bay width of 3600 mm is optimised for storing Euro pallets across the beam level, and the 1050 mm depth supports stable placement in the rack. With a height of 5000 mm, the structure is well suited to buildings where you want to take advantage of available headroom without compromising access. It also supports efficient aisle planning for forklift trucks and other lifting equipment.
Warehouses rarely stay the same for long. Different product lines, seasonal volumes and packaging changes all affect the height you need between levels. This pallet racking system offers 50 mm height adjustment, so you can set the beam levels to match your current pallet loads and change them later without rebuilding the whole rack. This kind of adjustability is especially useful when you store a mix of full pallets, half pallets, pallet boxes or returnable containers.
The racking system is designed in accordance with EN 15512. In practical terms, that means the structure and load capacity principles follow a recognised European standard used for adjustable pallet racking. For day-to-day safety, make sure operators know the load limits, keep loads stable on the pallet and avoid unplanned changes to the rack layout. If you need to change beam heights or add levels, do it methodically so every bay stays consistent and easy to inspect.
Each pallet position is rated for 500 kg, with a maximum total load of 2,850 kg for the complete racking section. In practice, safe use also depends on correct installation and sensible loading: keep loads stable on the pallet, place them evenly on the beams and avoid impacts when handling pallets with a forklift. Use the supplied fixings as intended, ensure the frames are level on the floor and anchor the rack securely so it stays stable under full load.
The starter bay can be supplied as parts, or it can be delivered pre-assembled for an additional fee. Choosing a pre-assembled option can shorten installation time on site and help reduce downtime, especially if the rack is being installed in an area that is already in daily use. Whichever option you choose, it is worth planning the rack position, aisle widths and the handling method in advance so the first pallet goes into the correct place and the storage area stays efficient from day one.
