Longspan shelving (light‑duty beam shelving) is the practical warehouse shelving choice when you need more capacity and span than a small parts shelf can offer, without moving to full pallet racking. The load sits on steel beams that hook into perforated uprights, creating a rigid bay that is quick to install and easy to adjust.
Uprights are made from C‑profile steel with tube‑braced frames for stability. When a flat surface is needed, a shelf deck can be added on top of the beams. We supply decks in plywood or steel sheet to match the stored goods and the environment.
Longspan shelving adapts to changing stock and spaces. The system is designed for manual picking, and it handles compact but heavy items efficiently. Finishes are available galvanised for tough use or powder‑coated for a clean, durable surface.

Longspan shelving is a beam‑based shelving system for manual picking. Also known as wide-span shelving, it bridges the gap between small parts shelving and pallet racking, giving higher load capacity and wider shelf spans without the need for pallets or lift trucks. In daily use this means faster access, clear visibility of items and straightforward re‑configuration as stock and order profiles change.
The load is carried by steel beams that hook securely into the upright perforations. Uprights are formed from C‑profile steel sections and connected with tubular cross‑bracing to create stable frames. Bays are joined into runs using the same principle, so you can build exactly the length and height you need.
If you need a continuous surface, add a deck that sits on the beams. We supply plywood decks for general‑purpose storage and steel sheet decks for clean, hard‑wearing use.
Longspan shelving is available in a wide range of frame heights and depths with multiple beam lengths, allowing bays to be sized to the goods instead of the other way around.
Choose galvanised components for demanding environments or powder‑coated surfaces for a smart, durable finish that stands up to daily handling. Both finishes are easy to keep clean and resist wear.
This system is designed for hand loading. It excels with compact but heavy items, awkward shapes and mixed carton sizes in maintenance stores, service vans’ backstock, e‑commerce picking, workshops and production kitting areas. If you are storing palletised loads or require forklift access, our pallet racking range is the right choice.
Compared with small parts shelving, longspan shelving offers higher capacities, wider spans and fewer posts in the way, so every pick is faster. Compared with pallet racking, it is lighter in structure, easier to adapt and optimised for manual picking. In other words, it is the sensible middle ground for many warehouse aisles.
Build a layout from individual components: uprights, beams, bracing and optional decks or choose pre‑configured bays to speed up installation. Multiple frame heights, depths and beam lengths mean you can standardise where it makes sense and tailor where it does not.
