Motonet Oy

Motonet store interiors designed around the furniture

The new headquarters of Motonet and Finland’s largest automotive accessories store feature a functional and sustainable furnishing concept.

The Motonet chain already includes 21 stores across Finland, with a turnover of around €172 million last fiscal year. Motonet is part of the Broman Group, which also includes AD VaraosaMaailma.

A new 9,600 m² commercial building was constructed in Turku, housing not only Motonet’s largest automotive store but also a repair shop equipped with nine vehicle lifts, Motonet’s e-commerce operations, a staff restaurant, and the company’s headquarters.

Property Manager Tommy Juntunen explains that being part of a large retail chain places specific requirements on the design of business premises. Furniture is centrally stored for chain-wide use, allowing quick relocation and recycling during modifications. Store furnishings adapt easily to seasonal changes. Having a consistent furniture system across all locations is highly practical, ensuring compatibility between store interiors.

Functionality Above All

According to Juntunen, facility planning begins with operational design, aiming to ensure optimal customer flow within the store. The distances between the entrance, service counters, and checkout areas are carefully considered. The placement of the goods reception area and proximity to storage and service counters all support internal logistical efficiency. Thus, the facility layout evolves around operational needs.

Detailed furniture planning is managed by designers from Turun Hylly- ja Trukkitalo (THTT), who were also responsible for the furniture installation. Everything went smoothly according to schedule without any surprises, highlighting the rewarding nature of their long-term partnership.

The furniture for Motonet stores is supplied by Finnish KASTEN shelving and ITAB retail fixtures. The shelving behind the service counter is designed for easy access by parts sales staff. Frequently sold items are located on lower levels, while less frequently requested items are stored on upper shelves. The shelving system operates continuously without interruptions or capacity issues.

Specialized shelf solutions have also been developed for more complex products.

The KASTEN pallet racking system is suitable for store displays of heavy goods. It can be enhanced with mesh shelves, and perforated panels can be installed at the ends.

Flexible and Modular Shelving

The modular shelving system easily adapts to various product displays, allowing store fixtures to be tailored according to each store’s concept and department requirements. For example, shelves in the motorcycle section have a lacquered finish, revealing the natural color of the steel and providing a polished shine.

End panels and backs of shelves can be equipped with perforated panels, R-brackets, or various shelf types. The fishing department uses wooden elements as decoration, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Small-item shelves store approximately 50,000 different product items. Multi-level shelving efficiently saves floor space, and the intermediate flooring, made of galvanized steel grating, enhances fire safety.
