This longspan shelving beam, sometimes called a bay support beam, forms the front and rear support for each shelf level in a modular shelving system. It connects to the upright frames and gives you a solid base for steel shelf panels or plywood decking. Choose the correct length and load rating and you get shelf levels that stay straight, stable and predictable in daily use.

The beam is one of the core components of the system, together with the upright frame elements and the shelf decking. A shelf level is built from a beam pair: one beam at the front and one at the rear. By combining the right uprights, beam pairs and shelf surfaces, you can build storage that matches your goods and your workflow without overbuilding the structure.

Powder-Coated Steel Finish

The beam is made from powder-coated steel in RAL 9016. In a warehouse or workshop, surfaces take knocks from boxes, tools and handling equipment, so a tough coating helps the shelving stay presentable and easier to keep clean. Steel construction also supports repeatable loading: the beam resists bending and helps the shelf level keep its shape, even when you reconfigure levels and your stock profile changes over time.

Choose the Right Length and Load Capacity

This shelving beam is available in six standard lengths. Your choice affects two things: how wide the clear opening is between the frames, and how much weight one shelf level can carry. The capacities below are given for a beam pair, meaning the combined maximum load of the front and rear beam at one shelf level. The material thickness is also shown.

Supports Steel Shelves or Plywood Decking

The beams create the support lines for the shelf surface. On top of the beam pair you can place either steel shelf panels or plywood decking, depending on what you store and how you handle it. Steel shelf panels are often chosen for durability and easy cleaning. Plywood decking is a solid option for mixed small goods, cartons and items that benefit from a continuous surface.

Beam Pair Load Capacity Explained
