When you pack long, narrow or awkward-shaped goods, standard bags often slow the process down. You either struggle to find a bag that fits, or you end up using an oversized bag that wastes material and looks untidy. A clear plastic sleeve roll solves that problem in a simple way: it’s a continuous tube of transparent PE film that you cut to the length you need, exactly when you need it.

This type of packaging is often referred to as layflat tubing, poly tubing or tubular film. In everyday warehouse work it’s simply a practical sleeve that keeps products clean and protected. Because the film is transparent, the contents stay visible for quick identification, picking and checking.

What the plastic sleeve is used for

The main purpose of a plastic sleeve is to protect products from dust, dirt and moisture during storage, internal transport and shipping. It is especially useful for items that are long, slender or difficult to bag, such as profiles and pipes. Instead of trying to fit the product into a pre-made bag, you slide the product into the sleeve and cut the film to the correct length.

You can use the sleeve as a simple cover, or you can create fully closed bags by sealing the ends with a sealing machine. This flexibility makes the sleeve a cost-effective choice in environments where product lengths vary from order to order.

Use as an open sleeve or seal into a bag

Not every shipment needs a fully sealed bag. For short-term protection or internal moves, many teams use plastic sleeve tubing as an open-ended cover: cut a section, slide it over the product and keep the surface protected until the next process step. When the goods need tighter protection for storage or transport, simply seal the ends and create a closed bag. The same roll can support both ways of working, which is useful when packing requirements change during the day.

Material and transparency

The sleeve is made from transparent polyethylene (PE) plastic. Clear film is practical in day-to-day operations: you can see the product, part number labels and surface condition without opening the packaging.

In addition, transparent packaging can make it easier to separate orders, because the contents are visible at a glance on the packing bench, in a staging area or on a pallet before loading.

Thickness options and available widths

Select the film thickness based on how much protection you need and how the goods are handled. A thinner film is quick and economical for light-duty protection, while a thicker film provides stronger protection for more demanding handling.

When to choose 0.05 mm vs 0.15 mm

If the main goal is to keep products clean from dust during storage or to prevent light surface marks during handling, 0.05 mm is a practical starting point. When the goods are heavier, have sharper edges, or are handled multiple times before delivery, moving up to 0.15 mm can give additional peace of mind. In many operations, a combination works best: keep 0.05 mm for everyday packing and use 0.15 mm for the toughest jobs.
