Steel spill pallet for drum storage – dependable containment in daily work

When you handle oils, coolants or other hazardous liquids, leaks rarely arrive with a warning. A loose bung, a worn seal or a quick hose change is enough to leave drips on the floor. A steel spill pallet keeps those leaks contained in a controlled sump, so walkways stay drier, cleaning stays manageable and the risk of liquid spreading into drains is reduced.

In a warehouse or plant, even small spills can cause real disruption. They create slip hazards, damage floor coatings, stain concrete and force teams to stop work for clean-up. Secondary containment is a simple, proven way to reduce those interruptions. These steel spill pallets are also known as bunded pallets, sump pallets or drum sump pallets, and they are built for storing two or four drums in industrial and logistics environments where equipment gets moved and floors need to stay protected.

Robust powder-coated steel construction

The bund is built from 3 mm steel plate and finished with a durable powder-coat in RAL 5010 blue. The coating helps resist corrosion and everyday wear, and it also makes the surface easier to wipe clean after minor splashes. The design is aimed at tough use, where the pallet may be moved, repositioned and loaded repeatedly.

In areas where hot work happens, steel containment also has a practical advantage: it does not melt from welding sparks in the same way many plastic spill trays can. This can be important in maintenance bays and workshops where grinding and welding are part of normal routines.

A galvanised, removable grating is included as standard. It supports drums above the sump, keeping containers stable and helping you maintain a clean working surface. The raised deck also creates an ergonomic height for day-to-day tasks such as pumping, decanting and taking samples. Because the grating can be removed, it is easier to wash down the deck and inspect the sump area when needed.

Forklift pockets on two sides for quick relocation

Chemical storage and drum stations rarely stay in one place forever. Forklift pockets on two sides allow lifting from either direction, which helps when you need to change the layout or work in narrow aisles. Moving the spill pallet with a forklift truck is straightforward and supports efficient internal logistics.

The frame is reinforced with longitudinal base supports. In the 4-drum model, this construction enables a load capacity of up to 1500 kg, supporting heavy drums and demanding industrial handling. As with all lifting operations, use trained operators and follow your site’s rules for safe transport and placement.

Upright or horizontal drum storage

The same steel spill pallet can support different working methods. Both 60 L and 200 L drums can be stored on the grating either upright or horizontally. Upright storage is common for reserve stock and sealed drums. Horizontal storage is often used when you want to dispense liquids through a tap or keep pouring height low, for example when filling smaller containers.

The grating features a 30 mm mesh spacing, which helps prevent drums from rolling during horizontal storage and makes fitting shut-off taps easier. The aim is to keep dispensing controlled and tidy, while ensuring that drips and small leaks still end up in the sump instead of on the floor.

An optional drip gutter is available for horizontal dispensing. It guides small drips directly into the sump, keeping the deck cleaner during longer dispensing jobs and helping you maintain a safer work area around the drum station.

Two sizes for 2 or 4 drums

Two models cover the most common drum-storage needs. Both variants share the same principle: stable drum support on a galvanised grating with a deep sump underneath for controlled collection of leaks and splashes. In other words, you get the same bunded pallet idea in two practical sizes.

• For two drums: 260 L sump capacity. Dimensions: 1200 x 950 x 300 mm
• For four drums: 380 L sump capacity. Dimensions: 1250 x 1250 x 300 mm

Practical emptying and straightforward maintenance

Good spill control is not only about catching leaks but also about keeping the solution easy to maintain. The grating can be lifted off for cleaning, and any residual chemical can be removed via the 1″ threaded drain plug, which is supplied as standard on both models. This supports controlled emptying when the sump needs to be cleared.

The powder coating helps protect the steel, also in outdoor storage, as long as the grating is kept clean and the bund is emptied when necessary. If the spill pallet is used outdoors, regular checks also help prevent unnecessary build-up from rainwater and keep the unit ready for use. When cleaning, make sure the collected liquid is handled according to your site procedures and the safety data sheet of the substance involved.
