In a busy warehouse or assembly area, access equipment may need to change position many times during a shift. Carrying or dragging a large platform from one location to the next slows the job down. These aluminium mobile safety steps solve that practical problem with four spring-loaded swivel castors. When the unit is empty, it rolls to the next picking point or workstation. When the user steps onto the first tread, the frame lowers firmly onto the floor and provides a stable base for the task.

How the spring-loaded castors work

The castor system changes the unit from mobile to stationary through the user’s weight. Without a load, the four Ø 125 mm swivel castors support the frame and allow it to be manoeuvred. When a person steps onto a tread, the spring mechanism compresses and the frame settles onto the floor instead of remaining supported only by its wheels.

This weight-reactive action keeps repositioning simple. There is no need to lift the complete unit each time it moves between nearby work points. The swivel action also helps when changing direction in a warehouse aisle or aligning the platform beside a picking location.

600 x 800 mm platform for practical working space

A platform must provide enough room for the user to stand in a natural position while completing the task. This model has a 600 x 800 mm working platform, giving substantially more standing space than a narrow ladder tread. The large surface is well suited to tasks that take more than a quick reach, such as selecting stock or completing an assembly stage at an elevated level.

The platform and treads are made from grooved aluminium. The grooves add texture underfoot across both walking surfaces. Each tread is 200 mm deep, providing a broad step surface and a clear ascent to the platform. The deep treads and large platform make these mobile access steps a practical choice where both movement and usable standing space matter.

Guardrails, knee rails and toe boards

The platform area is fitted with 1,000 mm high guardrails. Knee rails reduce the open space beneath the top rail, while toe boards form a low barrier at platform level. This arrangement gives the user a clearly protected working area and helps contain items at the edge of the platform. The maximum load is 150 kg. The mobile safety steps comply with EN 131-7 for mobile ladders with a platform.

Single-sided or double-sided mobile safety steps

• Single-sided mobile safety steps suit a location where the user approaches and leaves from the same direction. They can be placed beside the relevant picking or assembly point with the access route kept on one side.
• Double-sided mobile safety steps allow approach from either side of the platform. This can be useful when staff need to approach from different directions or when the unit is placed between two work points.

Both versions combine a large platform with quick, unloaded movement on spring-loaded castors.
