I-Con upholstery – Teflon-treated and abrasion-tested

The Team 11 is upholstered in black I-Con fabric with a Teflon coating. 50,000 Martindale puts the fabric firmly into heavy commercial use territory. In practical terms, the upholstery will keep its appearance through years of daily sitting, swivelling, sliding in and out, and the occasional belt buckle or pocketed phone. The Teflon treatment helps liquids bead up rather than soak in, so coffee splashes or pen marks are easier to wipe away before they leave a stain.

Adjustments for different users and shifts

The Team 11 office chair has the full set of adjustments you’d expect from a task chair built for shared use. Seat height moves between 460 and 610 mm using a standard gas lift, which covers most desk heights and a broad range of user heights. The seat tilt can be set to change the angle between seat and legs. A slight forward tilt helps when you’re leaning into a screen; a neutral or backward tilt suits reading and meetings. The backrest tilt is independent, so you can lean back without losing thigh support. The backrest height is adjusted with a lift-up mechanism which lets you place lumbar support exactly where the lower back actually needs it, rather than where the chair happens to put it. Armrests adjust in two ways. Height has four positions controlled by a push-button mechanism, width is set with a clamping mechanism that locks the armrest in place.

Base, castors and stability

The Team 11 sits on a 660 mm metal star base. Metal is a clear step up from plastic in terms of stability and life expectancy, it shrugs off knocks against desk legs and pedestals, and resists the kind of fatigue that eventually causes plastic bases to crack and split. The 660 mm diameter gives a wide footprint and a stable feel without becoming awkward in tight workstations. The chair rolls on soft PU castors. These are the right choice for hard floors because they roll lightly and don’t mark the surface. They’re also noticeably quieter than hard plastic wheels, which is worth thinking about in open-plan offices where chair noise becomes a constant background irritation.
